Sugar-coated Haws on a Stick is also called Ice-sugar gourd, Bingtanghulu or Tanghulu. It is a traditional Chinese snack, originated in the Southern Song Dynasty. It is a string of wild fruits with bamboo sticks dipped in maltose, which becomes hard quickly in case of wind.
A common snack in winter in northern China, it is usually made of hawthorn sticks. It tastes sour, sweet and very cold when it is frozen hard.
Ice-sugar gourd has appetizing, beautifying, enhancing intelligence, eliminating fatigue, clearing heat and other functions.
